May 2025
Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (BCHC), committed to delivering exceptional care and building healthy communities, has partnered with ecoDriver to implement a comprehensive energy management system across its extensive network of over 28 sites. This move underscores BCHC’s dedication to achieving significant energy cost and emission reductions, with ecoDriver identified as a key tool in realising these ambitious goals.
ecoDriver will integrate with BCHC’s existing meter operators (MOPs) and reconfigure their current SIP gateways to seamlessly collect granular energy data – spanning gas, electricity, and water – from over 230 meters. This dataset will be centralised within the ecoDriver cloud platform, providing an unprecedented level of visibility into energy consumption patterns across the Trust’s diverse estate.
A key and innovative aspect of this partnership includes the deployment of Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) sensors at the Moseley Hall site. This initiative will provide critical, real-time information to pinpoint pollution sources, directly contributing to improved occupant health and productivity. Furthermore, the readily accessible IAQ data will streamline BCHC’s mandatory NHS reporting processes. The ability to accurately monitor and record IAQ data was a significant factor in BCHC’s decision to choose ecoDriver, aligning with their proactive green plan.
BCHC will use the power of this granular energy data through ecoDriver’s intuitive platform to identify previously unseen energy-saving opportunities and track the success of their sustainability initiatives. Empowering their team further, ecoDriver’s AI Sustainability bot, EDDIE, will act as a virtual energy expert. EDDIE provides instant data interpretation, offers targeted guidance within the platform, and quickly answers staff queries such as identifying data anomalies or facilitating year-on-year comparisons.
The partnership also incorporates ecoDriver’s CEEP (Collaborative Energy Efficiency Programme). Through CEEP, ecoDriver’s experienced Low Carbon Consultants will provide proactive monthly audits of BCHC’s energy data, delivering actionable findings and collaboratively initiating measures to eliminate energy waste.
The procurement of ecoDriver’s services was efficiently facilitated via the SBS framework, using ecoDriver’s established partnership with Bramble Hub. Bramble Hub, a trusted thin-prime supplier across numerous government frameworks, enables public sector organisations like BCHC to access specialist solutions like ecoDriver through their extensive subcontractor network.
Matthew Boyham, Sales Manager at ecoDriver, commented, “We are immensely proud to be working with the forward-thinking team at Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. ecoDriver will assist their already impressive efforts by providing the granular data and intelligent tools necessary to drive down energy consumption across their diverse estate, ultimately benefiting their staff, patients, and the wider Birmingham community.”
